Every year on 9 May, we celebrate Europe Day - a symbolic moment marking peace, unity, and cooperation across the continent. But why this date?
Europe Day commemorates the Schuman Declaration of 9 May 1950, when French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community - laying the foundations of what would later become the European Union. 75 years later, this visionary idea continues to unite millions of Europeans around shared values of democracy, solidarity, and peace.
On 9 May, head to the Europa Experience in Luxembourg City to discover Europe's diversity and the story of European integration. The day also marks the first anniversary of their visitors’ centre - a perfect opportunity to enjoy interactive exhibits, guided tours, and special activities for all ages.
The celebration continues on 10 May in Echternach, in the picturesque abbey courtyard from 12:00 to 18:00. Expect a vibrant cultural programme, EU institution stands, showcases of EU-funded projects in Luxembourg, and participating embassies sharing flavours and traditions from across the continent.
Come celebrate Europe in all its richness - its cultures, people, and future!
