At ALEBA, we understand the importance of balancing work and personal time. Public holidays offer excellent opportunities to recharge, spend time with loved ones, or pursue hobbies and interests. With a bit of planning, having agreed with your colleagues, you can turn these breaks into refreshing long weekends or extended vacations!
As a reminder, you are legally entitled to 26 days of vacation per year – and even more if you’re part of a Collective Bargaining Agreement – but more on that below. First, let’s see how you can optimize your holidays in Luxembourg in 2025.
Spring break opportunities
- Easter Monday (April 21): This holiday guarantees a 3-day weekend to enjoy the first blooms of spring. Why not add a few extra days for a longer retreat?
- Labour Day (May 1): Falling on a Thursday, this holiday becomes a 4-day weekend if you take Friday off. Perfect for a quick getaway!
- Europe Day (May 9): Conveniently on a Friday, offering a pre-summer 3-day weekend.
- Ascension Day (May 29): Another Thursday holiday - pair it with Friday off for a restful 4-day escape.
Summertime getaways
- Pentecost Monday (June 9): A built-in 3-day weekend to enjoy outdoor activities.
- National Day (June 23): Falling on a Monday, this is a perfect occasion for family celebrations or cultural events.
- Assumption Day (August 15): On a Friday, it’s ideal for a mid-summer mini-vacation.
Autumn and festive season planning
- All Saints’ Day (November 1): This year, it falls on a Saturday. It’s a chance to reflect and relax over the weekend. Remember that if you don’t normally work Saturdays, you get to take this day off in the following 3 months. Click here to read more about double public holidays.
- Christmas Holidays (December 25–26): These fall on Thursday and Friday this year, gifting you a wonderful 4-day festive break!
